Physician – Refugee Health

Hamilton Urban Core is a thriving inner city health centre and a leader in the provision of high-quality primary health services and health promotion programs. Our comprehensive health services are delivered through a dynamic team of multidisciplinary, inter-professional health providers. As an inner-city health centre our client populations include individuals and families with chronic and complex health and social conditions, many of who are living in poverty.

Join our dynamic multi-disciplinary health care team in providing health care services to individuals, families, groups and communities living within Hamilton’s urban core.

We are committed to providing the highest level of health care, education, and advocacy with strong emphasis on health promotion, illness prevention, advocacy, and improved access to health care and services. Using a collaborative, shared care approach, the Physician will work with other team members in providing health care services, as well as engaging in health promotion and disease prevention which may include individual, group or community interventions.

Our priority client populations include individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, newly arrived immigrants and refugees, individuals and families with no/low income, people living with mental health issues or mental illness, persons who use drugs, street involved youth and isolated seniors. Also this role will support Refugee Health as part of our specialized transition clinic.

Requirements:

  • M.D. with CCFP certification
  • License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons
  • Relevant medical and non medical experience
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Interest and experience in working in community health setting, with physician assistant, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience with and sensitivity to issues impacting on clients and communities accessing the centre
  • Experience with immigrants and refugees, seniors, youth, individuals or families with low/no income, persons who use drugs, people living with mental illness and/or people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless
  • Knowledge of the community health centre sector is an asset
  • Experience with PS Suite EMR an asset
