BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Sept. 27, 2021 (Hamilton) – The Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that Nhlaloenhle ‘Nala’ Ndawana is the new Executive Director of our organization! The Board has been engaged in the Executive Director search process since November 2020. Nala stepped in as Interim Executive Director after the sudden passing of long tenured Executive Director, Denise Brooks. We are eternally grateful to Denise Brooks for her tremendous contributions in the fight for health equity, social justice and for building a strong, respected and resilient organization.

On taking on the role, Nala says, “I am truly honoured to be leading this organization at such a significant time, when we are working our way out of the COVID-19 global pandemic and at the brink of building our new facility. I have a firm commitment and resolve to removing systemic barriers and discrimination that negatively impact the quality of life of vulnerable populations. “

Nala worked at Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre as the Primary Health Manager for over four years before taking on a consulting role in the sector. Nala brings with her an intimate knowledge of Hamilton Urban Core, its funders, partners and the community. In the short time as an Interim Executive Director, Nala has demonstrated her strong leadership skills and successfully championing social justice issues in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic, including assisting with the preparation and negotiations of a major capital project and two interim sites.

About Nhlaloenhle ‘Nala’

She brings with her a strong commitment and lived experiences that inform her analysis and understanding of social determinants of health and the importance of applying relevant frameworks of equity, inclusion, anti-racism and anti-black racism, to ensure barriers are identified and eliminated to achieving essential healthcare services to the most underserved populations. Nala has over fifteen years of management experience in the non-profit, healthcare and community sectors. She has mobilized members of the community to ensure they are always included at stakeholder tables and has served on many community committees focused on serving the needs of marginalized populations.
