Hamilton Urban Core – Capital Campaign

Download Case for Support

For more than 25 years, Hamilton Urban Core has been addressing health inequities such as poverty, racism, discrimination, unemployment, and homelessness.

Our approach to helping our clients has never wavered. For more than a decade, Hamilton Urban Core resided in a mold-infested building on Rebecca Street in downtown Hamilton, that was originally part of a bus shelter. It is time for a change.

Our new location will be a 16,000 square foot, two-level building that provides all our programming and services under one roof. Our focus is on offering a better care experience for our clients in a welcoming, safe atmosphere.

We are driven to meet the needs of our community.
Join us and be a part of the largest capital project in our community centre’s history.

For more than 8 years, Denise J. Brooks lobbied for approval for a capital project to purchase land and build a new centre to serve the inner city. Her vision is finally becoming a reality. Your support will help us get there.

Hamilton Urban Core is requesting an investment of $2.4M from our community to complete the new building.

How this building will create an impact:

  • 15% increase in clients served.
  • The new space is expected to assist more than 9,100 clients a year.
  • Additional programs and services such as chiropody, mental health services and dental services all under one roof.

A 16,000 square foot space that provides all our programming and services in one location. It will offer a consumption and treatment service, dental, chiropody, mental health counselling, addictions, programs for youth, health promotion for seniors, nutrition programs, newcomer services, and an integrated approach to wellness that is inclusive and makes a difference in people’s lives.

Location:

Why 430 Cannon Street East?

A search was conducted to determine the best location for Hamilton Urban Core to move to. Out of five different locations, 430 Cannon Street was deemed to be the most suitable location due to its functional ability to meet the different needs of the community we serve and the budget allocated for the purchase.

In 2018 the Ministry approved the purchase of the land at 430 Cannon Street East. On December 10, 2020 the Ontario Government announced the funding for the redevelopment of Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre to provide their clients and families with a new vibrant community hub designed to provide holistic health and well-being services including the delivery of primary health care. We could finally share this good news with the community.
