CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Hamilton Urban Core Community Health is committed to ensuring that “No One is Left Behind.”

We are dedicated to ensuring access to COVID-19 screening, vaccination and information. We advocate for a targeted approach to vaccine distribution and we continue to send the same strong message – that COVID-19 care should be prioritized for all communities.

Our team members were deployed to support the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Hamilton Health Sciences in December 2020.

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic to align our response with directives from federal, provincial and municipal leaders, including public health.

We are also working collaboratively with our stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive community response.

Many appointments and programs have been moved to phone and/or video appointments.

However, if you need to come into the Centre, we want you to feel safe and know what to expect.

  • To help with physical distancing, there are fewer people in the Centre at any one time.
  • Everyone is required to wear masks and carefully monitoring their own health.
  • Washrooms are only open for clients with appointments.

We have implemented additional cleaning and sanitizing protocols throughout the Centre

Everyone is asked to self-screen before coming to the Centre. Everyone will be screened before any in-person appointment. You may be asked to re-book your appointment or not attend the appointment if you are feeling unwell.

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

The most common symptoms include:

  • fever
  • dry cough
  • tiredness

Less common symptoms include:

  • aches and pains
  • sore throat
  • diarrhea
  • conjunctivitis
  • headache
  • loss of taste or smell
  • a rash on the skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes

Serious symptoms include:

  • difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • chest pain or pressure
  • loss of speech or movement

Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms. Always call before visiting your doctor or health facility.

People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy should manage their symptoms at home.

On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to appear. However, it can take up to 14 days.

All clients will be screened at reception.

All clients entering any location must wear a mask and sanitize their hands.

Your best defence against getting sick is:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill
  • Stay home when you are ill
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue in the garbage and wash your hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Practice social distancing, which means keeping a distance of 2 metres or 6 feet between you and other people

People who are at higher risk include:

  • older people
  • people with chronic disease (for example, diabetes, cancer, heart, renal or chronic lung disease)
  • people with weakened immune systems
