Our Community Engagement Events are opportunities to share ideas, exchange perspectives, and strengthen our relationships with the community. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we ask all attendees to follow the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement below.

1. Respect and Inclusion

• Treat all participants — community members, staff, and guests — with respect, kindness, and empathy.

• We celebrate diversity and value all voices. Discriminate, harassing, racist or disrespectful language or behaviour will not be tolerated.

• Be mindful of different lived experiences, cultures, and perspectives.

2. Constructive Dialogue

• Speak from your own experience — use “I” statements when sharing opinions or feedback.

• Listen actively and allow others the opportunity to speak without interruption.

• Disagree respectfully and focus on ideas rather than individuals.

3. Safe and Supportive Environment

• Maintain confidentiality: personal stories or experiences shared during the event should not be repeated outside the space without permission.

• Violence, intimidation, or disruptive behaviour will result in immediate removal from the event.

• Hamilton Urban Core staff are available if you need assistance, feel unsafe, or require support at any time.

4. Participation and Engagement

• Everyone is encouraged to participate, but no one is required to share if they do not feel comfortable.

• Stay on topic and contribute in ways that move the conversation forward.

• Respect the time and structure of the session to ensure all voices are heard.

• Virtual Questions will be sent to the moderator to be read out loud

5. Accountability

• We all share responsibility for upholding these standards.

• If a concern arises, please speak to a Hamilton Urban Core staff member or facilitator immediately.

• The Centre reserves the right to take appropriate action, including asking individuals to leave, to maintain a safe and respectful environment.

6. Virtual Engagement

• Please stay muted during the meeting.

• All questions should be entered into the chat at any point during the discussion

• Questions entered into the chat feature, will be read out loud by the moderator

• If you are having technical issues with Team, please send a private message in the chat feature to the administrator
